Ok so i'm wondering to clean the body and frame and get it ready for paint, which would be less time consuming? With sandblasting I run the chance of warping the metal right? Is there a better way?

Never done it but I hear sand is a no-no...for the heat/warpage reasons and also because sand can cause silicosis in your lungs. Not sure what other options there are, but I've heard of the soda and also a plastic media that's gentle. I'm going to have a local pro do my stuff, he specializes in car parts.

    Where are you?

My neighbor has all of the equipment, he does body work. Other wise no way I could afford it. I'm just not sure what to do.

Go soda blasting, it is much gentler and he can literally take just a single layer of paint off if he wants. You have that much control when soda blasting and the parts do not start rusting like they do when sand blasted, the soda changes the ph of the metal temporarily.

I've read several accounts on soda blasting that while it's the best avenue for paint removal, it will not remove rust. The only damage from sand blasting to avoid is the warping that can happen on thin-metal body parts (hood, tub, etc) due to the heat from friction & the aforementioned moisture. I sandblasted everything on my 2A & had no issues, but would have considered soda blasting for the body parts if I had it to do over again. I seriously doubt you will warp any of the frame metal with sandblasting due to the frame thickness. My 2 cents.

It will remove rust. A buddy of mine does it where they work on old steel frames and such. It works quite nicely.
