Well I finally had enough of my spare taking up room in the rear seat area, soooo.......:hurrican:
I got an intermediate CJ5/7 swing out tire carrier from a friend (freebee)and added 1 1/2" spacers and modified the frame to fit on my 'ol 56. Now I have more room for ice chests and toolboxes for windrock. Thought about a fancy bumper mount type, but then I'd have to lose the factory hitch. Made from scraps lying around the garage.
Frank, I even used the proper ratio of liquid coolant to wrenching/welding! R)

Oh yeah it doesn't affect the bottle opener either.

    Free is good..;)

Did you add reinforcement on the inside of the tub so it doesn't pull the body apart?

Now you mout your lincense plate to the center of the spare tire, my plate was looking like your.
I don't have pics but I use a piece of diamond plate 1 ft. wide and cut the ends to the contours of the wheel.I use a footman loop mounted on the backside of the plate and one on the tire mount. I use a stiff spring threaded thru the tiremount footman with a homemade flat hook on the other end to hook up to the footman behind the diamond plate. Fits tight and comes off easy with male and female spade connections for the license plate light.

Go for the bottle opener idea, I didn't file any trademark patent, I do like the license plate idea- gets it up and out of the way.

Ooooo...Can I steal your design? I picked up one of these a while back not realizing it is too small for the tailgate and wondering how I could modify it to make it work.
