I have a friend who has just purchased a 1956 cj5. He has not even seen it yet. Is there anything particular to the 1956 model year that sets them apart or is different from the later model years. We are going to pick it up on Tuesday. I am recruiting a new member here and pics are sure to follow. TIA

The only things I can think of offhand are...see if it has factory reversed shackles, and the drivers side firewall DOESN'T have those big rectangular holes for the firewall mounted heater, at least my '56 doesn't. We need photos, ya know...

Oh, and the '56 model is the best, most desirable, valuable, collectible, and dependable one out there.R) R) Seriously though, my '56 came with the heater cut out on the drivers side but had the block off plate from the factory. It'll be 6 volt if still original.

My friend or I will be posting some pics as soon as we can take some. He only has a few snapshots and hasn't even driven it yet. We are going to pick it up tommorrow and will have a 1/2 gig of pics by days end. It does have the reversed front shackles and no heater holes on the driver side. Can't tell if the battery is a 6 volt. The pic shows a willys heater (?) that appers to be mounted on the pass. side firewall.
