    guys,
im tyring to collect parts for my cj-6 build. this thing is just a body and frame so i need a lot of stuff. not doing a resto, going to make it a more modern driver. i was going to try to graft some late model cj7 equipment into it like the pedal assembly, column, etc. BUT, i came across a nice 74 cj-5 that has a bent frame from a front end wreck. grabbed the dash and heater from it this morning. going to work great.
i noticed that the sheet metal that bolts over and around the tranny tunnel up to the fire wall looked almost exactly like the cut-up, bent, and partially missing parts in my 56 cj6. the contours of the floor and fire wall looked just like mine, but its hard to tell for sure.
    to the point, finally:
    1. does anyone know if these bolt on sheet metal parts are the same?
    2. think it would be feasable to swap the column and pedal assembly from this 74 in to my 56. the late model cj-7 stuff i have looks like its sifted to the right a bit and requires a bigger hole in the dash that will interfere with the dash and the fire wall. beside the old school column kind of appeals to me.
bottom line is im am looking for some info on what changed on these things at the model change in 71-72 (or whenever it was)

thanks a lot for any opinions or info.

All CJ-5 bodies through 1975 are interchangeable. The floors through '75 are the same - the floors changed in 1976. The '74 floor will even have the round cover that was used in the earlier Jeeps to fill the master cylinder under the floor. You'll probably find some very minor differences.

By '75 Jeep started spot welding the removable parts of the floor to the body. The '74 floors may be removable - even if they aren't, the stampings are the same as the earlier Jeeps.

Use the column and the pedals from the '74 - should be an easy install. Plus, the bus wheel is cool.

I know the Jeep you are talking about. I just missed you. I pulled the draw bar off. He is talking about sending it to the crusher next week if no one buys the tub. I have a feeling you will be able to get the stuff you want if you keep bugging him.

BTW he is relisting on craiglist for the tub soon.

I contacted him about a week and a half ago regarding the fuel tank, skid, filler etc. He hasn't had a chance to pull it due to an ankle injury. I sure hope he has a chance to pull and ship it for me before he sends it to the crusher.....

Yeah the fuel tank and skid plate are off. What a pain. I helped him pull them off to get to the draw bar. In good shape too.

He emailed me back tonight saying he had them pulled. He said he had to cut the filler lines as he couldn't get them off. I'm hoping to convert from under seat tank to rear mounted. I hope I can find new filler hoses.

Kevin, do you know what holds the tank on, is it straps, bolts, or held on with the skid plate?

If I remember right. The front has a small bracket (L shaped thingy) and a screw. The rear three two bolts I removed. However, He had removed some things before I was there. Also the skid plate was mounted separately. ON the pax side there were if recalling right two hoses small hoses going to a plastic canister and the other ran the frame rail. However, someone should have a diagram available.

Sorry I couldn't be much help.
