I topped off the Dana 18 transfer case in the CJ and now I have so many spots oozing oil I cannot tell where they all are. Thought I might go ahead and change all or most of the gaskets and seals, but I really do not want to split it from the tranny.

Has anyone ever tried this or should I just bite the bullet and drop the case?

I am afraid that if I split the transfer and transmission I will screw up something in the trans and then I'll wind up pulling it too.:?

Having only done one out of vehicle, I can whole heartedly recommend taking it out. I can't see any other way of REALLY getting that thing clean and leak proof. See the first link for how to take the Xfer case off without screwing up the T90, and the second link for how to rebuild the case. The reason I suggest this is that you *could* just redo the gaskets, but to really get to leak-proof, you'll need to clean the case up inside and out, threaded holes, sealer on all mating surfaces and so on. This is so much easier when it's all apart.

You got some gaskets to replace but its no big deal. Just make sure the gears mesh when you put them back together and clock it the same. If you're unsure about that just take a sharpy and put some matchmarks on the trans and tc cases.:v6:
