I flattened my muffler pipe between a stump and the cross member which lead to horrible backpressure results. I have cut out the flattened area to weld a new section in place, but I am thinking of bending the replacement pipe to go over the cross member instead. Can anyone think of any reason not to do this on an M38 A1?

    You mean the Tranny Crossmember?

    If there is room---why not.

To tell you the truth, I was doing that, but decided to just go outside the frame and high.

Stock Wagner exhaust pipe will run the pipe over the crossmember the way it's sposed to be. Got mine from local parts store, runs from the f-head head pipe to the muffler. "Bout $35.00 IIRC.

I have both pipes on mine (Chevy V8 ) routed above the tranny crossmember. It took a little work to get it all in there, but it fit.

A pto shaft for a front winch may be a conflict, if that matters.

Ran one with the exhaust over the Xmember for years. No problems found. Word of caution - make sure you can pull the fill plugs before you get it all welded in.
