72 CJ5 rubber body pads

    Hi all,
    Anyone have any idea's on home made body pads? I priced them new and the set was up around $90.00!

    Jeep used cut-up tire carcasses for many years.

    I'm pretty sure that was what was on my cj when I pulled the tub. Either that or some sort of 1/2" reinforced rubber belt.:v6:

    Thats what was on my tub also, but 1/2 of them were missing. I used the poly mounts to replace them with.

    May have been any kind of rubber scrap. I've put away new Jeep factory parts - body insulators - that had tread on them.

    I've used hockey pucks in the past for my body mounts on my 71. Fits all locations great except for the two mounts on the body lip in front of the rear fender wells.
    They are right around 3/4" tall.
    The downside is that they do crack eventually with weather and flexing right around the drilled center hole.
    I've even tried adding rubber spacers on the bottom of the bolt between the nut and frame to absorb more flex, but nothing really helps.
    Half the battle is just getting the damn original nuts/bolts to come off.

    I'm using Range Rover items as VERY cheap over here in UK and almost a perfect fit for less than $1 each !
