    Howdy all,

Well got the 232 back together and she runs good. I did the HEI swap and replaced the Headman 3 into 2 with a 6 into 1. I would love to upgrade the cast one barrel with an 2 barrel aluminum. I am trying to get this done on the cheep. What choices do I have for the $200 to $300 range? Thanks for all the help

You can swap to a 80s 258 manifold its aluminum and a two bbl.

That I did not know. What carb? a Ford 2100, Weber or a holley 2 bbl of a 70 318?

    Thanks Ron S

If you chnge to the 81-on aluminum intake manifold, you must use the matching exhaust manifold. '77 to '80 258 J-truck and wagon uses a 2V cast iron intake manifold that will bolt to your exhaust manifold, but IMO you are better off to get rid of the siamesed cast iron mainifolds entirely. The 81-on manifolds will bolt up to your head (use the gasket that matches the year of the manifold) but you may have some minor interference. I have these manifolds on my truck and I had to notch the PS bracket slightly.

I'd avoid the Holley - reported success has been variable. How much do you want to spend? For a junkyard carb, the 2100 is king. The Weber kit is good, and a direct bolt-on, but it'll cost ca $400 and availability has been a problem. Check the Redline site - they are the importers. You can try other junkyard carbs - if you live in the metropolitan west, there are a lot of different and cheap 2V junkyard carbs at the pick-your-part.

Ron, please add your location and info about your Jeep to your profile.

Well I am running a header, so I think that will take care of the exhaust problem with using the 81-on aluminum intake manifold. I did pick up 2100 at pick-a-part today. I have it tore down and in the vat getting ready to rebuild this weekend. Any other problems with throt cable? Thanks Ron S

No, nothing difficult. You'll need the stock cable bracket that goes with the manifold, and maybe the cable for the year and model Jeep that the manifold came from. If your existing cable is long enough, you can probably just snap it into the new cable bracket. On my truck, I used the manifolds from an '85 CJ and the cable for an '81 or later J-truck with a 258.

The OEM Carter BBD that came stock with the manifold pulls down to open rather than back, like the 2100. You'll need to make a plate to go on the side of the carb linkage to change the attachment point for the rod that goes to the cable bracket. You'll also need to make a new rod that connects from the bellcrank on the cable bracket to your new bracket on the carb. The stock type ball ends are available from Summit; I used a piece of all-thread between two of them. I can post a pic as soon as IT sorts out the problems with my web page server.
