Anybody have a good way to hold the rear drive shaft yoke while removing the pinion nut (other than the yoke holding wrench which seems to be in short supply these days)?

Seems like Joel had a long piece of angle iron with holes cut in it.

I fought with mine too - finally went and spent the coin for an impact wrench then was able to just hold the yoke while it broke the nut free.

:iagree: x2. Buy the impact if you don't already have one. If your yoke was last tightened at the factory, there's a good chance you ain't gonna muscle it off. Ask how I know.....

Guys - I hate to disappoint, but Jeff gets the amen on this one. I got focused on the tool and forgot the problem.

A big pipe wrench wedged against the frame and a three foot long cheater pipe did the job. Now I'm just waitin' on the big brown truck for a new seal.

Thanks much. I may have to use a similar approach later so my wife won't kill me for buying some air drive tools.R)

Hey it worked for me. Started off with the airtools and decided that would not work, not enough power. ended up with the pipewrench holding the yoke and 12ft of cheaterbar. Yes you read that right 12 ft, and it still was not easy. All of my niebors by that time were over taking bets as to if I was going to need more length R)

Now that I think about it, I had the axle out of the Jeep at the time. Makes it tougher - glad you got it off w/o the cost of the impact..;)

    OTOH, you missed a tool-buying opportunity......:D

I man has gotta be pretty tall to get leverage on a 12 foot cheater pipe.R)

I picked up a seal at the local NAPA, but it does not appear to be the same as OE. Thought I'd hang on to it and see what Krage sends me.

Nope got lucky and it started on the floor. All I used the 12ft for was breaking it free, once it was free the normal 18in breaker bar was all I needed.
