You guys got any thoughts on a Makita Chop Saw. It comes with a ($65)4.5 inch paddle grinder free. $185 with tax. Any bad press on the chop saw? Time to start on the front bumper and winch plate.

:iagree: Best thing ever invented! (well - maybe not, but high up on the list for those who like to make puddles of steel R) ) BTW - I've had a 14" Makita for a year or so - good machine - just make sure the circuit you plug into can handle the load, especially when cutting across 8" flat plate. :) :)

I have a shop full of Makita tools. Never had a problem with any of them. Don't have a chop saw, but the miter saw has been a great addition to the shop.

Does teh base clamp have a quick release or is it bolts to change the angle? I know i had the bolt design and i hated that function because it took time to get out the wrench and loosen, change angle, tighten then go cut, then have to do it all over again to put the clamp angle back to zero.

Mine has the quick release on the clamp screw, but not the fence - is that what you're talking about? Just remembered something I don't like - the cheesy wrench that comes with the saw - throw the thing away and keep a ratchet and a couple of sockets handy to change the angle and blade. R)

There should be two parts that are quick release. The outside part of the clamp that screws to hold the piece in place. That is quick release, as well as the other side of the clamp that decides what angle you will cut. Get one that is quick clamp also. The dewalt has it like that and the Rigid brand. I just find it will be easier that way. But the Makita you are looking at with the free tool sounds like a good deal in itself :)

I sold my old 10" craftsman table saw and old 10" miter compound, bought the cut off and with money to spare. Not doing any more carpenter work. Mind wants to, this ol' body wants to sue for divorce.R)

I use Makita at work, most of the stuff at home is "old" Milwaukee :flag: (the sawzal was made in 1973). So I agree with the quality, the only thing that I can see so far that I need to replace is the cheap blade. I'm going to pickup a reinforced one tomorrow. The bolt in the fence isn't so bad, I'm not manufacturing here, so got all the time in the world. Lets see, measure twice, cut once, drink  , measure twice, cut hand off...R) Measure once, finish project then   If you guys are interested in any tools, I get nearly cost on tools at my part-time job. Shipping is what kills ya though but some times it worth it... Let me know. Last month was the Makita 1/2, 18 vdc drill, two batteries, charger and a case. $188.00 with a 100 dollar mail in rebate. $88 bucks.:)

Makita, Dewalt, Milwaukee, a lot of others. I make nothing on it, store makes their %. Just offer the service to ya'll.
