I'm just about finished with the body work on my 49' 3A which took about 4 months:rofl: . and i can't decide to try painting this thing myself, (which would be a first time experience) or leave the thing primer gray. the main issue here is that i'm leaving to go to law school in august so the jeep will just sit for a few years anyway:cry: But I just want to enjoy driving it for a few months.R)

Epoxy Primer and TAKE IT WITH YOU! The worst thing you can do is let a vehicle sit for a few years.

I would paint it. I put just primer on mine, and it is rusting just sitting for a couple of months. Even a home paint job is better than nothing. Just my opion.

Primer is porous, so moisture will build up in the primer coat, especially after a few years. It is better to put a home paint job on it than leave it primed. Primer that old would have to be removed anyway, if you decided to paint it in a few years. Hell, brush or roller it: you can do a good job if you are careful......

Sounds like a few cans of Rustoleum rattle cans would do the trick. Cheap easy, and can even look decent.

My 1st car back in high school {1978} was painted with a Wagner power sprayer. I wheeled it out and sold the car 2 years later, know one ever knew, it was also painted in my backyard. Paint it, you won't be sorry. You could get it painted in a weekend easily.

Has anyone said - PAINT IT - yet? Just get a simple single stage and give it a shot. If you spent 4 months on the body, don't waste it.

I had to prime mine but wasn't ready to paint. I went for the www.eastwoodco.com Rust Encapsulator because it's a primer that seals. Did it with spary cans but since you're going to law school, it maybe a bit pricy. Good luck

whatever you do dont rattle can it with rustoleum.... that stuff reacts with automotive paint and when you go to have it painted you will have to have it all sandblasted off....
talk to a body shop and see what they suggest...
