I recently purchased a 1960 CJ5 and I'm wondering what it might be worth. I live in Western New York and the jeep is from California. I'd say the body is in excelent original shape. The only rust I have found is on the rear below the taillights, where the L-braket is on the inside. This area is just starting to bubble. It does have a strip of rust/rot along the rear edge of the tool box, the piece of metal that is welded to the rear floor. The rear floor is fine. This looks to be caused by the 60/40 bench seat accumilating pine needles and such. The seats need to be recovered and it needs a master cylinder. But it runs fine and only has about 20,000 miles. It has the original top bows and etc. It has a koenig pto winch, tow bar that looks like it's from the factory and 14" rims that have stickers calling them something about "high floatation". It also came with a civilian trailer in good shape and matching color. I'll try to post a picture, if that doesn't work, give me your e-mail and I'll send you some that way....thanks for everyones help.....

Something tells me this is going to be a peach....60/40 seats that only need recovering..bubbles referred to as "rust"....PTO winch...factory tow bar...only 20K miles....

Yep...I'm betting a really nice ride.

Welcome from Mississippi. Send those pics to john.shows@harrellcontracting.com I'd love to see them.

Worth is a relative term. If you are patient , you could get about 3k - 5k for the set up as is. Do a simple cosmetic restoration with original parts and paint color it should bring over 10k. Driving a cherry 1960 CJ down to the DQ with the top off on a hot summer night...priceless. Don't even think about selling it or worry about what it is worth. You own it now and you will kick yourself for years to come if you sell it. I still kick my self for selling a rust free 1970 cj5 with original v6 and 4 speed for $1000 about 10 years ago because I really needed ths $$$.

If you can get 10K for an ECJ5, I've got some ocean front property in Arizona you can sell for me. LOL I'll probably catch hell for saying this, but I've yet to see a early CJ that was worth much more than .50 on the $1 of money invested. Maybe the Right Coast is different, but here on the Left Coast thats pretty much it. I will say that it appears more Jeeps are purpose built here, while the East seems to have more people interested in restorations. But, I could be wrong. I better go ask my wife.

I agree with Posimoto to a point. Having bought and sold some jeeps of this vintage, I will agree that $10K is not a common price. But on the other hand, a RESTORED CJ5 of this vintage is worth, and can be sold for this price.

There are very few jeeps of this vintage in original, unmodified condition, or restored to original condition. They command a premium above modified, customized, or "improved" jeeps of the same age.

But a "simple cosmetic restoration" by itself will not put a jeep into this value range unless the only problem was that the paint faded.

I'm gonna try to post some new pictures. I took this today while it was snowing out. I had some better ones, but they won't download.

This jeep does have rust, and has had some paintwork done. But, I have bought alot of old cars in my day and know how to find bondo. This has none. I think the paint was sprayed just to make it shiney, and the new paint was done along time ago. I've bought 14 old jeeps over the years, and I have never had one so clean as this. I found numbers on the frame that are pencil lead thin, I have never seen this before. The jeep has an interesting story, and I pretty much bribed it from the young man who had inherited it from his great grandfather. I paid quite a bit for it, but it did come with a trailer, and I have since stopped bugging my wife about buying a new jeep rubicon. Hopefully the pictures will come through.....thanks for everyones input. By the way, I'd like to sell that Beachwood canvas, if anyone is interested...

Great looking Jeep!! You should keep that top, it has character, and those great lower windows in the doors. Be mighty chilly without it.
