Reattaching Tranny to Transfer case, Question

    I have read through the article about rebuilding a Tranny and have one question that I could not find an answer to. Once the Tranny and Transfer case are bolted together, there is a gear that gets slid onto the back shaft of the tranny inside the transfer case. How tight should the nut be that holds this gear in place? It is the nut that is secured in place with a cotter pin if that helps. Thanks.
