I recently inherited a 1965 Tuxedo Park Mark IV.
It was my wife's grandparents and sat in a garage in the San Berdoo mts for at least the last 20 plus years. (last reg sticker is 1982)

It's not in great shape but it could be alot worse..........

There was no gas cap and I can see rocks in the tank.

We moved it yesterday and discovered that there are no brakes whatsoever.

    No keys as of yet...........

I was told it may have the big ball-joint thingys at the front wheels and it does. How bad is this. I don't plan on rock crawling or sand dragging, just cruising and hunting.

My father-in-law told me that early on they put a Buick v6 into it but couldn't remember if it was a new engine or not. When we moved it yesterday (from a garage behind the restaraunt they own to the garage at the house, more secure) I noticed the air cleaner had a Jeep V6 Dauntless sticker on it. I thought maybe that was from the first motor and had no idea that it was a Buick until I started checking last night.

It has the Dauntless. My guess is that when that motor came out in '66 they decided to upgrade.

This jeep has stickers from Pismo Beach (early 70's) and the stock wheels were off and it had deep-dish wheels and grooved, balloon, sand tires. BTW the sand tires were all in very good shape except 1 that was flat and cracked at the flat spot.

If I remember right the odometer showed 15,000 or so miles. I don't think it turned over because it was just a recreational vehicle.

No top or doors. There is what appears to be a half-top in the rafters at the house garage.

I would first like to flush all of the fluids, replace hoses and belts as necessary and see if this thing will crank over...................oh and clean the gas tank.

    Any suggestions?

I will try to get some pix the next time I am up there.

Many old Jeeps are pulled out of old barns and live on with very little coaxing! Good luck and keep her stock!

The big ball joint thingies at the front wheels? You mean closed knuckles with kingpin bearings?

Nothing wrong with that at all. Plenty of info here on that subject. :)

Empty out your fluids, replace and see if it'll start up!
