The tub is coming off tomorrow (maybe), or next day (for sure). I'm down to the steering column and shifters. So far not too bad, the only rusted bolts I've run into were attached to things on the fender wells and they came off w/ persuasion and a couple of nasty cuts (my fingers not the cj). I've read through the procedure for steering column removal at vernco, my wire harness has disconnects at the firewall,, and the TC shifter will come off easy enough. Not having been in a T-14 before I'm need advice on the Trans shifter removal. Also does anyone have a bolt count for the tub? Any in unusual or not visible places? Any added advice will be welcomed. I've read through the threads on removing it, the 2x4 and sawhorse method sounds good to me. BTW, pictures are being taken, just can't seem to get the wife into Walmart for developing (she always seems to detour to the casino).:v6:

11 bolts on the tub, 4 across the back, 1 in each wheelwell, 3 on the body under the front floor pans, 2 on the passenger side and 1 on the driver side. 1 on each side where the rear of the frame curves up. If you take the center floor pan out 1st you can lift the tub over the transmission shift lever.

I have even lifted the tub over the steering column. When you get enough stuff off, it's surprising how light the things are.

if you wanted to take the shifter off, its 6 bolts. 3 on each side and it just lifts right off. might have to break the seal from the gasket, but nothing else holding it down. I'd be worried about crap falling in the case though.

Like they said, its fairly light and shouldn't be a problem lifting over the shifter and column If you do leave the column, at least loosen the 3 bolts holding the box to the frame so it will drop down a little. That will help some.

It takes 3 guys to lift my tub. 2 on the firewall end and 1 in the rear. Not a problem, at all.

If you pop the tranny top off - clean the top edge and duck tape a cover on it... That's how I do all of mine.

My garage has a support beam for the master bedroom, and there's a section exposed over one side of the garage. I rigged a piece of chain over it, and lifted my tub off by myself with a come-along and four m/c tiedown straps, then I rolled the chassis out from under it. Left the shifters in place but had to drop the column.

Lowered the tub to the floor, stood it up on the firewall, and shoved it into the corner. There she sits, the cat loves it. Not messing with the tub until the rolling chassis/drivetrain is completed.

Isn't there a bolt hiding in the toolbox?

Thanks for the advice everyone. The only thing left is something I forgot about till I pulled the floor pans. Gotta pull the clutch pedal. If its relatively easy I'll get the tub off today before I go to bed.:v6:
