Wire your backup lights to a toggle switch on the dash.

If your FLAPS is really F they can find you one that will work. The screw-in part is fairly universal - only the type of terminals varies. IIRC the Jeep part is meant to lie flat agains the switch so that it does not bump against the floor. You may have to modify the connection to provide enough clearance.

Some states require that the backup lights come on automatically when shifted into reverse, in other words they don't allow a toggle switch. Kind of dumb but that's the law for ya.

hmmm, Texas does not require backup lights. So no problem with that here.

Virginia doesn't require them either but says that if they are on the vehicle they must come on automatically when it's put in reverse. So if they don't work right you could take them off and be legal. Stupid law.
