hey everyone i am looking for anyone with some knowlege as to what wagoneer axles are the best used under my 76 cj-5. I need centered rear and obviously right hand drop front. I would like them to have manual hubs already if this is possible so it cant be a q-trac. i wuld also love to use an auto to bolt up to my 304 and my 20. if anyone knew what years i could or should look for to get most or all of these things out of a waggy i would greatly appreciate it. also did they ever make a 5 lug waggy?

I beleive the later years *0's have the rear centered . The front with the passenger drop is a 70's wagoneer. Manual hubs really didnt come standard, except with the earlier ones with the Dana 20 Tcase. Sometiems you may be lucky and get a front axle with the conversion (lucking hub) already done, but it is not that much to go and add hubs yourself. And the axles are all 6 lug so you will need to change out the wheels.

Repeating a little of what Dan wrote ...

The Quadratrac doesn't affect whether you can have manual hubs or not. You can install manual hubs on a front axle in a Quadratrac Jeep just like in a manual transmission Jeep. It'll wreck the transfer case, but you can do it.

The Wagons before 1974 used the 27 or 30 closed knuckle axle, so you don't want those. From 74-79 the Wagoneers and NT Cherokees used the open knuckle 44 front and flanged 44 rear, with a 6x5.5 bolt circle. Most were 3.31 (Wagon) or 3.54 (Cherokee) ratios, but some Cherokees had optional 4.10 gears (258s). These cars were passenger side drop. From 1980 on, Jeep switched to DSD, NP cases, and TF transmissions for the FSJs.

All the rear axles were offset to the passenger side some before 1980. The QT axles are offset more, and this may work well if you're running a D18.

From sometime in the late 60s through 1973, the Wagons used a flanged 44 rear with 5 lugs. Unfortunately, there are no 5-lug 44 fronts from Wagons. IIRC you can convert a 6-lug 44 front to 5-lug with Ford hubs... not sure about this though - you'd need to do some research first.

    from another board

Use Chevy/Jeep D44 outer knuckles, small bearing spindles, and Ford
    1/2 ton hud/rotor/locking hub to get 5 on 5 1/2 lug pattern
    .

lots of TJ guys do this:

keep 6 lug front and for the rear, buy Dutchman shafts drilled to 6 on 5.5and also redrill rotors to 6 on 5.5" . Phone number is 503-257-6604

dont know if any of this will work for you... good luck
