    are you re-using it? if not, snip the lines as close to it as possible, and re-flare the ends.

    If you cut the lines, you cut off the flare at the end...

    the flaring tool shown above is not sufficient for brake line work... only home plumbing...... you should use a 'double flaring tool'.... there is an additional die that fold the tubing inward before creating the outward flare... this makes a 'double thickness' of the tubing at the connection....

    these are your brakes... and your butt if the the single flare fails ....

    gee, it sure looks just like my snap-on brake flaring tool, just doesn't show the 4 dies. the dies are what allow you to "double-flare". just because they aren't pictured doesn't mean the tool is for plumbing only.

    the ends of the brake lines are flared with a "double flare", which allows the fittings at the ends of the line to cleanly mate with the junctions in the valve body, etc. if you cut the lines, you'll be removing the flared lip, which in your case is stuck inside the valve body with the fittings.

    True, but someone who doesn't know what a double flaring tool set looks like may get the wrong impression by looking at that picture.

    Here is a picture of a complete double flaring kit This one isn't top notch, but with some care and attention it does the job well.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Which is the complete reason for my post!

    Thanks for posting a complete image..... the dies are an intergal part of a correct double flare...

    my opinion, not that it matters, is that if someone doesn't know what a double flaring tool is, they shouldn't be attempting to work on their brake lines without oversight by someone who does. in fact, someone who doesn't know about flaring will have some difficulty performing the technique based on the directions, or lack thereof, supplied with most flare-tool kits. they are hazy at best, and misleading at worst. they'd be in worse danger by attempting to use the single flare tool kit on their propane lines. leaks there are a no-no.

    thall, my apologies for the little bit of sarcasm.
