I'm sure there are past discussions on this, but my search was not succesful. The data plate was missing when I bought my 53 M38 A1, and I would like to trace my jeep. I know that there is supposed to be numbers on the frame or axel somewhere, but have not had a lot of luck finding them. Can someone give me some specific areas to look for identifying numbers? Thanks.

it's been a while since i looked at my a1, and it's a bit of a drive to look at it now, but there should be a plate on the rear fender well behind the passenger seat, stamped on the frame, i believe one on the cowl under the hood, and i think the number would be listed on any rebuilds performed on parts (tranmission, engine, etc).

like i said, it's been a good bit since i've laid hands on this project, buti remember seeing identification number on all of thoe spots; or at least i think i remember seeing them there.
