I just got around to putting my pertronix ignitor (#1541) in my 3B! Well got it out of the box and started to take the old points and plate out then went to put it in and BAM i find out i got the wrong ignitor (crap) from what i understand (now) there was more then one Distributor for the F134. my distributor has two small bolts on (outside) each side that hold the cap clips and also, the plate that holds the points inplace on the inside. Any one know what distributor this is?

I will post a pic of the distributor inthe morning to help id it,

That's not a repro distributor, is it? There should be a small alouminum tag rivited to the outside of the housing that will have the distributor number stamped on it. If there is no tag, the distributor is waaay too clean for a 53-year-old engine andthe spring clips are screwed to the body of the distributor, then you may have an offshore repro unit. The Pertronix won't fit this unit. AMHIK.

Hmmm. Sure looks a LOT like the repro unit that I had, but it isn't. There's no tag in the outside of the dist. housing? I think I'd give Pertronix a call tomorrow and see what they have to say. Their website is under constriction, but I did find another that had some Jeep applications on it:

I think the other one was Prestolite. Autolite is the brand, so you need to contact the people you got the Pertronix from. I would have to assume yours is for the Prestolite. I've never messed with the Pertronix so don't really know for sure. :hurrican:

That link Steve posted shows your number fits the early Prestolite.

I know the points will fit, but I think the distributor body and internals are a bit different.

    :) Thanks!

    One more thing!

Any one might know what a auto-lite would use in the way of a Protronix? It looks like i have 3 to choose from! I'll be calling the place i got it from in the morning but if some one has a idea on what to use after looking @ my dist. PICS I can confirm it when i call!!

    134L & 134F Engines w/Autolite dist. IAD-4008,
    12 V negative ground PART#2541

All w/ Autolite/Prestolite IAY Series dist.,
    12 V negative ground PART#1548

I don't think its this but just in case!

    134 Engine (Dist. #1110458 ) Post Office PART#1144A

Also, whats the difference between the IAD and IAY dist. looks like auto-lite has both?

I know some of that info is in the manual, if no one else has posted any info I'll see if I can find out when I get home. I'm assuming yours has been converted to 12 volt, since it's a '53?

your dist is most likely an Autolite IAY series
    small rotor makes that distinction
the larger rotor type is also an Autolite: IAD series
the 1110458 is a Delco type

isn't it great that they all interchange ?
