vin plate question

Looking at my VIN plate the vin is J3F835TH22872 . There is also two sets of #'s on the right hand section of the plate. They are 422, and below that there is 8300. Any idea what these #'s mean??

 

Huh, just checked my resources and there're no color codes for that year that match those numbers.

Someone's phone number perhaps?

T = CJ6
83=CJ5

and that's funny about the phone #.....

 

"T" refers to the 3 Speed trans

"H" is the 304 V-8.

 

that's true for 74 and later

got any info for 73 and prior ?

My apologies JP. The "T" is not transmission, it is CJ-5. Here is a scan of the VIN Data... mind you it is for 1974. I would think it is the same as 1973.

 

Now, as to the question about the other number on the VIN plate. Here is what that information means:

 

I would think the "8300" in the lower right hand corner means CJ-5 because "83" on the VIN means CJ-5.

Does anyone know what Trim Option 498 would be? That is what my 74 Renegade has.

 

the paint code on mine is 492, which is jetset blue poly. the only part of the blue that is left is under the weather stripping on top of the grill where it meets the hood. Someday I would like to go back to the blue.Thanks for all the info guys! Jeff

 

I had that color blue on my 74. I thought it was called Jetset blue metallic. But whatever it was a sweet sweet color! Not to dark not to light.

Yes, 8300 means CJ-5.

Someone with a parts book might be able to look up 429 for you. The only ones I know are:
Buff bucket = 405
Black bucket = 406
Buff 1/2-2/3 = 407
Black 1/2-2/3 = 408

 

Poly means metallic in this case.

Jetset Blue is a terrific color. IMO it looks particularly good on a J-truck or Wagoneer in two-tone (white above).

 

Tim, the 429 was a typo. The correct code is 498... I think I have a parts book somewhere in my Jeep information library. What does anyone else have in the Trim Option box on their CJ5? And off what year Jeep?
