I set the tub back on the 5 today. A friend and I completed installing a new full front floor pan last week, and I want to get all the holes cut in the right places before I turn it and my new fenders over to the body shop. Problems are......

If I cut the hole for the fuel line fitting on the tank I will cut into a hat channel (need another half inch). If I have the fuel line fitting cut out of the tank and welded up, can I set up the drain fitting to supply fuel (as well as drain)?

The old access panel where the xfer lever comes through was so trashed by rust and PO repairs that I cannot us it for a template to cut the hole in the new panel. Anybody got a good (sure) way to locate this hole? I hate to make swiss cheese out of new sheet metal.

    Maybe another  will help.

You mentioned you redid the floor. Did you get a new transmission cover? If so, where did you find it I haven't been able to locate one for my 65 CJ-5. I just redid my floor & put down 1/8 inch flat steel, nothings going to rust thru that for a while. I just bought a new steel gas tank from JC whitney, didn't have any problems with mine. Was able to cut an oval hole. Both holes on the tank are the same size. One just has the flared adapter & the other is just a plug. Good luck. Would like to see a picture of your progress. The covers came with the new floorpan I bought from Krage. It's an Omix-Ada part. I used a mix of old and new to get the covers in as best I could without too much cutting. The new pan is a little oversize and I wanted to use the original captured nuts on the firewall to mount the covers. Gettin' there.

I'll shoot you a photo of the work in progress as sson as I have a chance. It may be a day or two - gotta work some long hours this week.

Mine is for a '69 so the xfer lever position may not be the same as yours. Not sure.

When I get it back together I may have the upper part of the new cover left over as well as the shift cover. I should know in a week or two. Let me know if you want them.

I used panals from Classic Enterprises. All the holes were in the right spot. Do you think you could just lay out the holes with a tape measure?

I'll take a look at it but there must be over 30 bilts that hold that whole thing together. They are fairly evenly spaced. It'll take a day or two. Not gonna be able to get to the garage for a while.
