Just curious of some of the methods of frame repair. I had a recent issue with my tow bar falling down while i was driving on the road..OUCH!!.. Talk about surprised while driving.

Cracks are just behind the front spring hangers on my 76.

Bent the front frame "horns" (is that the term?) upward only slightly. Thinking just take it to a frame shop and get them to straighten it then i can do some welding.

Id searched some and looks like plates are a plus on the frame around this??

Is this somthing better explained with pics?

Just looking for some thoughts on repairs.

Hard to tell how extensive your damage is...sounds like moreso than the cracks that I had.

I went with the basic "grind and weld" repair, and we'll see what happens.

My gut feeling is that this is a place where going overboard is easy...and doing things like boxing sections or adding plates has to be approached carefully or you can induce more cracks (frame designed to flex, stiffen one section, the rest keeps flexing, leading to new cracks).

i welded all the cracks then used "C" channel over the entire frame horn section. Prolly overkill, but shouldn't break/crack anymore R)
