Also last but not least, how do i tell what model jeep this would be? It looks like a cj. It also has the v6 engine in it. Any help would be greatful.

Hi ther Im, a big welcome from Ohio. Where are you located?

Ahh, the steel hard top. Must be in a cold climate, no? It's somewhat rare, but not enough to start seeing $$$$'s in the eyes of the seller. Lots of diffo types of hard tops around...see this link to ID the one you're lookin' at:
    http://www.film.queensu.ca/CJ3B/Hardtop.html

Some factory CJ-5s didn't have the roll bar, if I correctly recall. The seller could be the original owner. (A+ "cool" factor).

Model info....hopefully the seller will have the title which will have the VIN/Serial number on it, but that's beside the point. When you go back there, open up the hood, look on the firewall on the driver's side, there should be a metal rectangular tag indicating the manufacturer and VIN/serial number. Let us know what that says and we can help you from there.

Hope you end up buying it, and join the other 1500 of us here who've been bitten by the Jeep bug! :)

Seems Like I remember reading that the roll bars were added by dealers through the Kaiser era. Not a jeep production item.

Im located in Illinois. Thanks for the help so far. The hardtop on this jeep is a half cab type. The jeep (which there are actually 2 of them i can get other is a 62 i think) The jeeps were used to drill holes in the ground for water pipes so they both still have the drilling equipment attached and dually rear axle with 14 bolt corp Gm diff The diff is narrowed to bolt to the springs. Frames dont look malested at all and they look solid also. SO from what i gather its even more rare to have this type of top?

Ive been into jeeps for years. But i got out of them and went back to hotrods. I got my s10 about 1/2 done and saw these jeeps. Now im thinkin about stripping my s10 and get out of it to buy these jeeps and go have some real fun again.

That's right. The roll bar was strictly a dealer-installed item until 1974 or 75. After that, factory roll bars were painted body color.

The Meyer hard top is not rare - in fact it is common in the snow belt. There were factory installed steel tops, but most were dealer installed. You can tell a factory steel top by the windshield latches (or lack of them). There were fewer half-cabs, but still not rare.

Post the VIN for more info.

    Welcome from Boston!

Well, not exactly. The Renegades did come with a factory installed roll bar starting in 1970.

Those durned Renegades, they cause so much trouble when you say "never" or "always" about ECJ5s. R)
