I'm looking for some pictures of installed Novak Buick/Chevy Conversion mounts. Trying to figure out how the bushings are supposed to stack up. If mine came with instructions their long gone. :D

Thanks for the help. I'm good to go. Cross member is installed and motor mounts are tight! (Found the directions on the Novak site).

I put mine in bolt from the top, so that the bolt won't drop out if the nyty nut somehow comes off.

Call me anal on these, but I got bit once

Where does your engine/tranny centerline line up with your frame centerline? Are you installing a V6 or V8?

Engine is off to the drivers side per the novak instructions. It's a 231 V6 Oddfire. Bolts are going in per novaks instructions. I'm not concerned about the bolt dropping off with a jam nut and locktite plus I'd rather not have anything sticking down.

On CJ's '71 and earlier when using Novak mounts they recommend that the engine is moved back towards the center of the frame about 1 1/4 inch for an engine swap. Note that means back "towards" center, but "not on center." They say "1 inch to 1 1/4 inches. This provides steering box to engine and brake pedal to bellhousing clearance. I'm using their words, it sounds a little confusing, they have a picture and I used that. I found center of the frame and moved the centerline of the engine 1 1/4 inch to drivers side. They say engine and drivetrain should be parallel to the center line of the frame within 1/2 inch. Also made sure drivetrain was 3 to 5 degrees down in the tail. Checked all other clearances and that's where they are welded in place.

The reason I asked is that the jeep had a 265 Chevy V8 in it when I bought it. I'm redoing the front mounts since the PO had the engine about 2" to the driver's side. I read the Novak instructions and am equally confused. Right now I have the engine (now a 283) sitting 1/2" to left of c/l in order to use a spin on oil filter where the original can went. The reason I stopped at 1/2" off c/l was because of what Novak said about not on c/l. I wonder what determines how far over to the right you can move it. Maybe I'll call Novak and ask them. Anybody have any luck getting verbal technical info from Novak? How are they to deal with?

I'm not an expert but I do have some swapping experience. I think when you buy a "kit" from a maufacturer a lot of factors have to be looked at, and the closest to "Bolt on" the better. Take the clutch cross shaft, if you go too far away it won't work. One thing is that fwd driveshaft, too far over and you have clearance issues. So, if all of your special circumstances are taken into account, you set it up as close as you can, I don't see any other way it will work for you. I would think what you end up with will work. These Jeeps we have have chassis differences one to the next from the factory, so don't worry. My .02:beer::stout:

Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks. I wondered about that clutch cross shaft. I heard about a local guy who installed a firewall mounted brake & hydraulic clutch setup from a wrangler in a 2A. Is a wrangler a CJ7 only? What years were Wranglers made? I'm thinking 1987 to ?

Even though mine was set up to to use the stock clutch cross shaft I will be using the Advance Adapters chain clutch rig. As far as using the hanging pedals you hve to engineer the whole thing, there are a few Jeeps around here that have them.

Although I've not dealt with Novak on an engine swap, I have dealt with them on other items.
Top-notch service, great to deal with! Don't hesitate to give them a call.
Eric is the top dog there... and has been an occasional contributor to this forum. :) IIRC, he runs a '68 CJ5 :D

Thanks. I'll call Eric when I get to the engine mounting part of thre project. Right now I'm in the middle of the 11" brake conversion. Bought all the parts, cleaned and painted the drums and backing plates, drilled the drums, and am ready to rebuild the cylinders and do final assembly on the front brakes. I'm going to old car swap meets this Saturday and next. I'll look for a tapered axle puller like the one that was shown on a brake conversion thread awhile back. Last meet I was at last year, a guy had an ECJ5 speedometer for $5. Since I wasn't working on Shaggy yet, I passed it up. "Ve get too soon oldt und too late schmardt"
