Well its been raining down here so instead of finishing my sanding and priming I boxed in my frame rails and started my postal jeep saginaw conversion. Turns out that the DJ tie rods are too long to work with the double hole tie rod end.

I hope to set it up with the double tie rod end on the long rod from steering knuckle to steering knuckle and have the drag link attach to the pittman arm and then to the hole in the double tie rod end.

Here's my question...should I have a machine shop cut the rods down and re thread......or by the rods on Herm's site? What other alternatives?

I've been using cut and welded tie rods for years. If welded properly they are fine shortened that way. Most people consider it a big no-no though.

would spend the $$$ and buy the tap and cut new threads. would most likely cut the right threads off as that tap is cheaper.
