Lift Kit

    I ran across a SMOKIN deal on a 2.5 lift kit for a ECJ5 and was wondering what differences if any there where between the ECJ kit and a 2A kit? Its just the lift springs so I would just measure and get shocks later on..

    IIRC the cj5 spring is longer than the CJ2A-3b.

    Yep just did some quick research and found that the 2a springs are 36.25 and 42". The cj5 is 39.63 and 46". Wonder if it would be worth the trouble to move the factory hangers a couple inches in order to run a little longer spring. Plus doing this would allow for a much better shackle angle than the straight up and down that usually come from putting on a lift...any idears?? Or should I just sell the cj5 lift kit and keep looking?

    Yeah I got some laying in the garage but I really dont feel like tackling that job yet. Prob. do that when I do a axle swap. I was just looking for something to clear a little larger tires for the spring/summer season. Guess its back to the drawing board :rofl:.........

    Moving the spring hangers is a pain in the a**, but it can be done. The hangers are riveted to the frame, as well as welded.

    IMHO, I'd get the right springs for the Jeep.

    I agree with Steve. It can be done, but it's a fair amount of work. And, to be honest, I don't think you'll notice an improvement in ride quality b/c of the CJ5 springs. Most of the 5's I've been in ride just as bad as the flatties.

    If you're going to move the spring hangers, I would suggest just going to the Dakota/Durrango springs. Chuck Pedretti (sp?) did that on his flattie. Look around on here for "OldJeep", he has a link to his website. It appears that those springs are almost the same as the Holbrooks (offset center pin) and can be picked up from the junkyard for a song... (or from the back of your dad's Durango if you don't think he'll notice! :twisted: )

    Goldmember rides suprisingly well right now with the stock/worn out springs. I have searched and read a good bit about using the dakota springs and XJ springs. They all seem good, but almost everything I've read says they have had to switch from dif. spring packs to dif. spring packs after they installed them to find the correct spring rate. I have a book by Jim Allen "Jeep 4x4 Performance Handbook" and it he lists the lengths and spring rate for every factory spring Jeep offered. Factory 2A's were 260 F/and 190 R. To give a comparison YJ rears are 170. So thats the area I was looking for. I really like how wag springs are offset, that way I could gain a little wheel base when I swap them in. Plus they are soft also thinking in the 160 range. So they should flex great. Prob just have to add a rear track bar to help with spring wrap. But all this is preliminary planning for next winter projects. Who knows it may completley change between now and then.....I may be as bad or worse as Baby John when it comes to changing my mind :oops:
