Back again - My previous thread (opinions) was about a 1948 CJ2A that my son and I are looking to buy. Upon inspection, the engine and trans appear to have been rebuilt, good compression, but alot of parts aren't on it. The gen is sitting on the fender, the radiator is not in, none of the wiring is hooked up (looks like the wiring harness will need replaced), no battery, and the carb is in a box and need rebuilt. So as far as the engine, it needs a lot of work. My question is since its so old, does it have a Vin number? If so, where is it located? Still working on the purchase and finding out if there is a title for it. If the owner can't find the title, will a bill of sale do, as far as getting a new title and plates for it. That is if we can get it back together and running.

You folks have been real supportive, so I'm pretty sure we will have a new project in the garage by this weekend. Boy, then I'll really need HELP!

    Thanks

Vin number should be on the passenger side firewall. Should start with cj2a #####

Yes, the Vin and body tag should be on the firewall, passenger side. Also the serial numbers are located on the frame horn behind the front bumper (driver side).

The owner can apply for a lost title then sign it over to you. Some States don’t require a title if over a certain year check with your local DMV.

    Thanks

Found out the owner does have a title. I'll take a look for the tag and check it with the title.
