Axle shafts not sliding out of tubes on a Dana 53.

I have pulled the drums, backing plates and shims and according to the FSM the axle shafts should just pull out. Before I start making a plan to remove then I would like to know if I’m missing something.

The D25 and Timken slid out with ease.

    Thanks for the reply Jim.

I put the axle nut on and gave it a few taps with a 5 pound hammer to no avail. What I’m figuring is the cup is rusted to the bearing or possibly the cup is out of alignment causing it to bind.

I won’t be able to get to it until Friday night but I plan to use a chisel to break the case and remove the roller bearings then I should be able to remove the shaft.
