Vin Numbers

    hi I'm new to the forum but i need some help. I just bought an old Jeep. I think it's a CJ5. The Serial Number is 8305 S 242661 What year is this Jeep? What does the "S" stand for? Any info would be appreciated! THANKS!

    Without looking at the tables, of the top of my head, I would say your CJ5 is a 68, or maybe sold as a 69. The S indicates it was equipped with smog control.

    Thanks for your replies everyone! This is an awesome forum. I'm from Michigan and I'm a woman (sounds like most of you are men)! I'm a high school teacher and I really like Jeeps. I have a 98 and also this new one that I just got for Christmas. I checked the websites you suggested and it only went up to mid-1967 and didn't reach the number I'm looking for. I'm thinking it's a 1968 or 1969 like one of you mentioned...

    my from what I can tell 68' has a # of 8305017 245194 so I would say your in the ballpark
