jeep body gauge

    Does anybody know what the original guage of metal is on these early
    cj5s? From what I've heard it could be 18, but then I have heard 16 as well.

    I've heard the 18 Gu. figure as well. I did slap a caliper on a piece one time & it was actually a little thicker than the 18 gu. book value but not by very much, close enough it could have been manufacturing tolerance-

    At any rate the sides & floors were the same stuff.

    I've always used 18 ga to replace areas of rust. I put a mic on it one time and IIRC it was like Howard said. Ive used 16 ga for floors where it didn't have to butt weld against the origional panel. Worked well for me.
