Either way, one or the other has to have the offset for an odd-fire motor.

Don't forget that an odd-fire engine fires at 90-150-90-150-90-150 degrees, while an even-fire engine fires at 120-240-360-120-24-360.

By looking at the difference in spacing, you can see where having the distributor contacts evenly spaced won't work on an odd-fire engine.

here is an excellent explanation of the strange bird called an odd-fire Buick engine: http://home.off-road.com/~merls_garage/oddfire.html

Hmm.. My cap looks fairly normal with the exception of the window for the dwell adjustment. My roter is shaped like an L so that shouldn't be a problem as far as that goes. I'm beginning to get suspicious about how well the distributor was installed last time. How easy is it to goof up installing one? lets say you put it in when #1 was on its exahust rather than its ignition stroke, for say?

It's relatively easy to screw one up if you've never done one before. It's easy to put it in every possible way but the right way if you don't know the right way. Believe me, I know.

One more question, Does the vacumm advance line have to be a certain lenth? And if so, what effect would it have. When I installed me rebuilt carb, I had to include about 4 inches of Watts connectors to get the hole in my carb to something I could hook a vacumm line to.

I might end up taking the dist out and reinstalling it (hopefully correctly), and see if that works.

Vacuum line length will make no difference.
