Hi everyone, I have a 1958 cj5 and want to know if it is possible to swap a later cj5 windshield frame, with the bottom mount wipers onto my 1958.
Only because in all the reading I have done about wiper motors, there does not seem to be a good electric motor replacement for the vacuum motor. It would be nice to keep it original but I olso want it to be reliable if I drive it in the rain or snow. I have seen one web site that gave the measurements of the frames. 59" for the top wiper mount frames and 55" for the bottom mount frames with reguards to mounting a hard or soft top. It looked like those measurements were at the top of the frame. I need to know if the bottom of the frames where they hinge to the body are the same width or is there a differance there to.

Welcome aboard! Fill out your profile info so we know where you are, might be somebody else nearby that can come over and drink your beer and use your tools!

There's also been mentions here of getting good quality replacement 12v wiper motors from boat supply places that will work on the early windshields. Something I'm going to need someday myself. I hear most of the imported replacement motors are junk.

Just repeating what I've read here - the marine motors are of much higher quality than the imported replacement motors, ala JC Whitney etc. Trouble is, they are expensive, and you should be able to buy a complete later model windshield for the same price.

Regarding fitment, yes they are all the same 1955-1975. The 1976 and newer ones are somewhat different (more tilt-back, narrower across the top, different latches) but they will fit the cowl and can be adapted. If you have a top, it will not fit the 1976 and later windshields though.

See the link that linckeil posted above.

    Welcome from Boston!
