anyone know how the later model gauges worked with the two ploes in the back instead of the three poles?? it took me a while of thinking about things, but when i get the voltage drop i want in front of the gauge (taking it down to about six volts going into the gauge) the reading changes with the sending unit... like it should. soo, i figured there's some sort of regulator in the old ones, and wouldn't ya know it, a little bit of reading and taking apart the old gauge prooves that to be right.

now then, ive got a few of the newer style where the gauges measure the votage drop across a resistor, but i can't think of a way to get a constant voltage there. resistors are just going to change the incoming voltage when the seding unit drops or rises. i'm really at a loss here. anyone know the newer style wiring good enough to decribe the loop hole around this dilemma??

welp, a few more minutes of reading answered all my questions... haynes confirms the use of regulators through the 86 models, which contadicts the parts suppliers but makes sense to me. soo, a quick trip to radioshack in the morning for some Regulators and i should be good to go with all new gauges. or at least that's the plan.

had to edit it cause html code is off... the link:

welp, it works now... full sweep and zeros itself out at empty. i've got a 5V regulator in front of the input and replaced the 150 ohm unit with a potentiometer that is reading 2 ohms right now. soo, while i was searching for the solution i saw there were people who just gave up. now you guys know that four dollars at the radio shack will yeild a fully functioning gauge.
