I Have ABP Brake shoes I'm putting on the 69 CJ. How do I tell which is the leading shoe? 2 have marking on the edge and 2 don't. Just doing the fronts right now.

I think after looking at these there is no difference. Correct me if I'm wrong.

One should have more surface area than the other. That side should go to the front. If they are identical, I would guess it doesn't matter. Let me do some looking here...

Edit : Long shoe to the front. I was thinking backwards

    short shoe to the rear

Dennis, Thanks. They are the same so it must not matter.

UGH!! Just went to bleed the brakes and the bleeder nipples are broken off.
Anybody have a FLAPS source and part number for wheel cylinder? I haven't done a drum brake job for like 40 years.

    Part numbers from advance auto:
    Front right #W37231 $31.06
    Front left #W37230 $31.06

If money is not a big issue find some speed bleeders while you're getting the wheel cylinders. They are not expensive and will help when you bleed them, especially if you have to do it by yourself.

Are those things worth a darn? I've often wondered how well they worked, I'm pretty sceptical of stuff like that.

No Advanced Auto. I looked for an advanced Auto Parts and they are not in California, smart people! Anyway we have NAPA, Carquest, AutoZone and probably some others I don't know about. I think as long as I'm doing the brakes I might as well replace all the little things to. Springs, etc. Any suggestions? I'm also interested in feedback on the bleeder. Working alone, it is really hard to bleed brakes. R)

I think 4WD Hardware has a small parts kit for drum brakes... all the springs and pins and stuff.
Not sure if FLAPS has "kits".
Do a search on Speed Bleeders. I don't have them, but have read good reports here and elsewhere.

Some info. from Turner 4 Wheel. The 10 inch wheel cylinders can be either 1 inch or 1 1/8th. Mine are 1 1/8th. Nothing else is available anymore except the little S hard tube that connects to the soft line. Thank goodness as mine is going to get destroyed getting it apart. PO must have been a heavy handed mechanic. Broken bleeders, other fittings WAY too tight.
Sounds like more reason to go to 11's next time. Herm said he is putting together an 11 inch kit.
