The channel is extruded aluminum bolted to the tub. The tab at the bottom of softtop just slips up under the channel between the channel and body. Its easy and very smooth to take on and off. To me the hardest part of any of the soft tops is the track or channel on the windshield, now that thing sucks but I can live with it.

Yeah the windshield channel is a pain. But what I don't like mostly is dealing with the last few snaps towards the rear when your hands are cold and it's wet. Pulling as hard as you can, then your hand slips off and you crack your knuckles on the tub edge.... The channel is sounding better...:D

I'm going to order a top from Herm Monday. Several reasons: cost, $500 vs $700+, I'd rather deal with Herm than anyone else.

i use the super-top as well and would not change. i had the old style as well, and imho, the super-top is by far the better of the ideas. i like the way the side windows zip out for a saffari style verses rolling them up. the rail is much eiser to work with, and i LOVE the ability to have the half door.

here it is in safari mode and half-door

here you can see how it folds down in a neat package, there are little straps that wrap over the bows and hook into the rails to hold the rails and top down.

here is a look at the side profile

Leaning toward steering away from the Supertop. Pretty sure I don't want extra zippers. I've never made use of the fold down feature on "convertible" tops anyway, although I roll the back up if it's dusty and I 've pulled the doors. Not so keen on two-piece doors either. Might as well pull the whole thing, I'd guess.

Have said that, I have no experience with either feature, obviously.

Me thinks I'm getting even more anal as I get even older.

Thanks for all the advice, folks, I'll prolly flip a coin one day and that'll be that. (coulda done that first, I guess, huh?)

I've never had any top except for the current Supertop so maybe I'm not a good candidate for advice. However I do like it. I need to spend more time getting the doors to line up correctly, otherwise it fits good. I do not like the velcro to hold the wrap around piece above the doors as it kept coming loose. I had a local guy sew in a zipper just like the ones from bestop and its never been an issue since.

I do like the rail system. I think its cleaner and more secure than snaps. Snaps also seem like they would be more likely to tear the fabric. You don't notice the rail at all and it would be hard to damage.

The split doors are nice. I sometimes run with just the lower half if its cold out and I have the top off. Helps to keep the legs warm. I don't like how the door window is either up or down with no real in between. And when its down its usaually in the way when opening or shutting the door, but thats minor stuff.

Its 6 yrs old now and its not had any maintance or cleaning, but its still holding up really well. The rear window is starting to fog, although it may just be mold growing on the jeep as I never wash it and its allways wet in the morning here.

Anyhow, I'm slightly biased. Hope that helps some.

My Supertop is great except for the same problem mentioned above - I need to sew in some zippers above the door rail. Oh yeah and the fact that my elbow and clothes constantly get hooked on the door strike. Great fit and no problems.

The tigertop's not tooo bad. Of course I've never had a supertop to compare too. Snaps on, the rear window zips up on both sides, one piece door with zip open windows.
I hated it on my 68 because I screwed up and didn't mount it right. That and the fiberglass tub has a big sag in it so it didn't fit right. On Wimpy with the original steel tub, it fits alot better and I like the fit on it. Kinda hard to snap things in the cold to put the top back on, but if you have a heated garage, that should make it easier in the winter to put on.

No, really, folks, I must be way outta touch. My old Whitco had full window doors, and if you wanted a window open. you just unzipped the top half, then folded it inside. It was so simple. Held up as well as the rest of the top, which was pretty good, I thought.

If I promise to put the top back on before it's too cold, could I please have a one piece, no zip-off side or back top with full window, one piece doors, and if it's not too much to ask....... for about $175?

What? It's them windows, ain't it? Ok. I can give a little on the price, if I have to. NOW, can I have one?
