Just pass along something I've learned about wiring under the dash. After standing on my head over and over I thought there has to be a better way. Hint: the dash comes off VERY easily. If you tilt the windshield down and take out the 9 bolts (on my 69) you can either take the dash clear out (which I did) or just lay it down on the steering column. Then it is easy to wire it up, install new stuff etc. In fact when I have time I'm planning on installing the whole dash as a unit with plugs for the connections.
Hope this saves you as much time as it has me.

my solution was to add about a foot to all the wires.

Thats exactly what I did. Everything is prewired to terminals on the dash and then I installed a plug on the wires going out. Its very easy to just unplug and remove the whole dash out. OH, I have to remove the ignition and light switch too, then the dash is free to come out.
