carrier and gear ID.

OK, if I have a carrier w/ gears on it, how can I ID if it is from a dana 25, or dana 27? Does anyone have the casting numbers for either? Thanks

 

what are the stamped numbers on the side of the ring gear ?
example: Dana 23753 43/8

Are the first few digits a date code?

 

yes they are: Sept 21 1964
your number = 4:27 R-P for dana 27.
the matching pinion gear number would be: 31395

 

Just got through read’n ‘bout this and it’s simple, since you have the carrier and ring gear out where you can look at them.
If your ring gear has 8 bolts holding it to the carrier it’s a Dana 25, if it’s got 10 bolts it’s a Dana 27.

this has been debated before, the bolt pattern.
4.27 for D25, the Dana numbers are: 30076 ring gear 30075 pinion
