on the rear gas tank relocation( Mine under seat 56 cj5) can I use a poly tank with a skid plate. I thought a poly tank would be safer. Is this true?

I don't know that the poly tank is any safer - maybe cheaper though. You have to have a skid plate with the poly tank in order to support it.

The added safety comes from locating the tank outside the passenger compartment and inside the frame, or at least, that's the reasoning.

Poly is ~$40 more expensive (just talked around this issue with Coby).

Huh. Then why bother with poly? I would have thought that the tooling costs are lower, making them cheaper - but apparently not. The rust issue is obvious, but only if you keep the tank for 20 years ... maybe they're harder to puncture? I've read a few complaints about poly tanks leaking around the sending unit - too flexible, and don't seal.

Punctures are what I thought would make them safer and not rusting is just a added +

No seams to leak where the 2 halves meet with a poly.

Hafta ask Sandhill but I never had issues with my MTS in the truck.
