Hi I purchased a 68 cj-5 a while back. Started to restore it, The jeep was running great in the beginning stages. I then started to have starting problems. I rewired the jeep using a painless wiring kit.
The jeep started right up. Then the flywheel came loose(two part fly wheel) I punched the flywheel back on. I am now having problems the starter pops out and then does not spin or get caught up. Everything is fitted up correctly.

The other question is I looked all over for a new starter purchased several from a few different places, however none had the same pattern as my current starter and flywheel. I have a very strange starter and everyone I talk to has no idea what it is. Anyone have any ideas.

In order for us to be able to help pictures would be extremely helpful when asking about something unusual.

You sure it's a 225? Those starters aren't uncommon or odd.

Are you saying the starter is not engaging?
You may want to pull the starter and have it bench tested.

    thanks guys,

the starter does work, I have pulled and tested it. The strange thing is when I put it in it does not work properly. The reason I was asking was because it seems to be some aftermarket flywheel and starter. I was wondering if anyone knew of special starters for those cars and why someone would have put it in.

    thanks

Check the Numbers on the block if your not Positive it's a 225... What your discribing sound suspiciously like a 198.

Hence the reason I asked if it was a 225. I've tried to get a starter for a 198.
