Ok guys, I need your creative sides here.

I would like to make a windshield mount light bar similar to the ones available for the 76+ CJs.

How would you go about doing this? I want it to look professional. I'd rather buy one, but they are not available for the early JEEPs

    TIA

    Dark where you live? ;)

Swap windshield frames? That means a new top too so I'm guessing no.

Too late for that. super top only a year old. It would have been a great idea, though. :)

Not dark, but I can incorporate the flashing lights (the yellow signal stat rollers) while I push sprints into this and leave the top on. I can't do that now and I'd rather not weld a plate to the roll cage...

Ah-ha. Inside joke on the dark comment. ;)

Good idea though for the light for pushing.

IIRC there are a couple of bolts fairly high on the frame. Might be able
to fab a bracket for them and then some type of channel for the cross
piece. You could make the brackets stand off the frame w/ a couple of
washers per bolt to clear the side fold down of the softtop.
    Just brain storming....

Here is the first idea I had.

Start with some angle iron to bolt to the 2 holes toward the top of the w/s frame. Use 1 1/4" square tubing for the uprights as well as the cross bar. I would need to find plastic caps for the tubing though...

I would then weld in some 'bump stops' to the cage to keep the w/s from flexing back any further than the normal upright position.

It would probably work and look ok, but I was hoping that somone else had done this before.

Dennis, I know my early WS frame has a couple of holes on each side that I could use for a bracket, but IIRC, you went to a later WS? You may not have the holes I'm thinking. Are there any holes you can utilize? If not, mebbe something that you can clamp to the WS?

The w/s I have is from a '73. Same holes available on the sides toward the top. I just want it to look good, IYKWIM.

    Thinking it came off a '74 cj6.
Redneck looking things that they are. R)

Sounds good. You could weld a cap on the ends of the tube. Or just use
channel instead. Easier to run the wires.

Plan for it to be removeable. Quick disconnects on the wires.
If you plan for Speedy to continue to do double duty, a light bar on the trail just collects branches... at least on the trails in Tioga and other places that I frequent with tight, overgrown trails...

You know, I might even have one out in my shed that was on a '73... :?
want me to look for it and take a pic??

It'll be used for the lights while I push sprints... not on trails

    I still haven't seen the springs :(

I'll make sure I still have it tomorrow night.
Pretty sure its still there though.

I still think you need a strobe kit for the headlights and tail lights. :D

I had the strobes on Clifford when he was the safety truck ;) Nice set up. No room in the lights on speedy. I'd have to add lights to make it work on the jeep.
