    OK,

Here is the thing. A friend of mine rebuilt his 225. He had it bored out to .030. Replaced the cam, bearings, etc. Heads R&R'd. Has a Mallory dual point distributor.

It runs but the passenger side heads run at temperature but the drivers side runs much cooler. So much cooler that the headers(which are plated) have not discolored). The headers are 100 degrees cooler then the other side.

Any thoughts or ideas. He has played with the carb and timing but no change.
    Thanks
    Scott

One side of the carb running way leaner than the other? A leaner mixture will run much hotter than a rich one.

The carb was adjusted for this condition but did not affect the issue.

If the one head was milled at one time in it's life and then milled again, it might be overmilled now. Especially if it was ever angle milled. Might also want to check compression to make sure it's the same across the board. That would rule out different combustion chamber sizes (compression)

WAG, Maybe the coolant passages in the hotter head are clogged?

I runs pretty good. It does not seem to lack power at any specific RPM range.

have you hooked up a vacuum gauge and taken a reading at idle ?
should get at least 18" of vac at our elevation

I will have him check the vacuum to see what we get.

Aren't the head gaskets different between a 225 and a 231? I think one of the differences is the water passage holes. Did the parts guy give him the wrong gaskets?
