wich rear end do i have

    im thinking about getting a locker for the rear end, i guess by the book it says its a 44 but do you think that is correct? it is original in a 52 m38a1 with a 538 gear also do you happen to know what the spline count would be thanks for the hel[p ,jared

    From the FAQ:


    I think it's reasonable to assume that an M38A1 would be the same as an early, Early 5.

    i actually bought a 1952 m38a1 rear with 5.38 gears. it was 10 spline. i bought it just for the housing and swapped my 19 spline carrier and shafts into the housing. with almost 100 percent certainity its a 10 spline. if your buying a locker, it might be a good idea to get a 19 spline unit and find some used 19 spline axles. this way you upgrade your traction and your strength at the same time.
