Not so much a how-to as a I-did. Spent a very nice day Sunday working on the trailer. Finally got my spare and ammo cans mounted. Spare is self explainatory, but the ammo cans hold my straps/chains/etc. I mounted one on each side so I wouldn't have to walk around the trailer. Each can holds a pair of tire straps, and one long strap. Plenty of stuff to hold a Jeep with. Yes, I went dutch with the chain for the ammo cans, and yes, I know anyone with a big ol' bolt cutter can get it, but all I'm aiming for is to keep the honest people out. I figger this way, I can replace the chain easily enough instead of some cretin bending the heck outta my rig just to get the darn thing. The chain is tight enough that without bending the snot out of the can itself, you ain't getting it out of there. You won't get the lid off either, as both handles are trapped from opening by the chain. No way it'll fall out either.

Anyway, now I've got a bunch more room in the garage! :D

Very nice. Mike is right - you can never have too many nooks and crannies for storage.

    Well done Thad.

I have my spare tires mounted on either side of a large Knnack tool box. I have decided to remove the box to save weight while increasing space and mount the tires on the frame as you did.

I like the can mount - I carry several of the same size cans for gear, and I may "borrow" your idea for use on several of my trailers.

BTW - Will be in your neck of the woods over this weekend Thad. I'll be working with Preferred Chassis at the Trucking & 4x4 Aftermarket Expo at Firebird Raceway. Too quick a trip to get in any desert wheeling, but we may wind up demo'ing the vehicle.

can you shoot me some more pics of your trailer. I want to get some Ideas. I have a small 4 X 7 cargo trailer that I am going to turn into a modern day chuck wagon to pull behind my trailer. I want to set it up with the ammo can as you did, carry my Jerry cans up front with a propane tank. I also want to set up a place to hang the spare tire as you did. I just did a spring over the axel lift tonight to give the trailer 4 " of lift to make it in line with my jeep. Next thing to do is to put some 31" tires under it.

    other mod's
Carry rack above the trailer to carry what ever. I want the center open to put my camping gear. On one of the sides I want to put a place to a metal box that will hold my colman stove and cookware. and a fold down table on hinges.
