I just bought myself a 1957 willys Cj 5 with a 225 V6. I Found it in a small town with a plow on it for sale. It runs mint very strong, I plan to do a restore on it, The brakes are gone, I would like to do power brakes and or power steering if it is at all possible. Is this a simple upgrade or is it something not even to waste my time with. Also where can i find a good manual on this engine.

Well, you have a few routes on the all of it. Ebay has most any parts you need from time to time and/ or become fast friends with the local parts guy. As far as anything that needs to be fabbed up that would depend on your own skills. If not, call herm the overdrive guy or go to his site (www.hermtheoverdriveguy.com) and or advance adapters or novak adapters

As far as manuals the chilton/ haynes manuals seem to do alright but a mechanic's or shop manual should do great....again check ebay, websearch, or I found one at a used book store for 5 bucks

    that should getcha started

and that's only my 2 cents

    Welcome from W. Mi...

225 in a '57 would be a swap, not offered by the factory until '65-'66.

On brakes - you have 9" drums now. I'd recommend either 11" drums all round or going disc up front. I have 11" drums with the orginal master cylinder currently on my 6 and can lock up the tires no problem. I have the power setup from my CJ5 yet - detailed here, but am strongly considering using the hanging pedals again but not the power. Power was nice, but then again tough when the engine stalled.

With steering you're looking at a Saginaw steering conversion, well-documented if you search around the board here. My 6 came with this done, I always thought I could do without power steering, but just had our first real offroad time with the Jeep this past weekend and it was nice..;)

For years I ran a power brake booster from an old (56-66 or so) Ford 1 ton. It was framew mounted on the Ford from the factory and just plumbed in-line with the brake lines. I mounted it in front of the grill and used vacuum from below the carb. I tested the pressure I had with the manual setup then tested it with the power booster and it was nearly doubled. It was very easy to do and I kept my stock pedals and master cylinder. I just had to plumb into the brake lines between the master cylinder and the junction. If the engine stalled the booster's vacuum diaphram was non functional but I still had manual brakes as if the booster was not there. When I put 4 whl discs on I didn't need the booster anymore.
