identifying axles

    OK, I did a search for "identifying axles", and got nothing.

    What kind of axles should I have on my '56 CJ5? It's bone stock, so they should be the originals. How do I identify them?

    dana axles have the model number cast in the top and the right side of the web (when viewed from the driveshaft). the amc 20 is round (think it has 12 bolts as well).

    Sparky, How should I search for something like this? I honestly DID try several times, but never found anything like the link you posted. I obviously don't know what I'm doing.
