tinkering on my jeep today i noticed that it has a dana27 not a 25...i noticed it after a converstation about the Ujoints that it uses. the really small ones. my data plate is gone, but i have the title vin. the vin # is 5754842535. the title says 1957. i am wondering if someone swapped titles on it and it is a later model. does anyone have key ways for me to check.

My '71 has a 2 piece rear axle.

    You're point is? :D

Frame numbers? About the only way you'll ever tell that I can think of for a definitive answer.

Passenger side frame rail, top of frame, right behind the shock mount or there abouts and on the rear about the same place.

Could be a very, very late 56 or a very very early 57 based on vin.

The frame serial number is hard to read - you usually have to scrape the paint off to see it. Note that the serial number on the frame did not necessarily match the vin serial number -- from the factory!!

Even though the old jeeps appear to be the same there are a enough minor changes in design to identify or at least 'bracket' the year of manufacture.

What was it again that makes you think that the year may not be right???

well, having a d27 instead of a d25, the front DS has the tiny Ujoints at both ends ...so the tcase is running that. i thought that was used in V6's which could mean that mine could be older and had a motor swap to the F head. althought the F head doesn't look bubba replaced. also since the tag was missing i thought someone could have found a 57 rotting away and just use the tag and title from it. i am going to try and look for the frame number today.
