I was planning on going back to stock exhaust manifolds and modifying the driver's side manifold so that it dumped straight down and missed the clutch slave cylinder. But I don't have access to a stick welder or a torch right now, so that's probably not going to happen.

I'm looking at the Sanderson block hugger headers. On the driver's side my steering shaft is only a few inches from the engine, does anyone know how far the headers stick out from the engine? I think that's my main concern. I'm not sure if my motor mounts are stock or not, the motor and mounts were swapped in but they look like stock v6 mounts to me? I don't know, but I think I'll be able to modify the mounts to work if it's an issue.

I think these are the same headers Novak was selling, and maybe making a modified version that cleared the motor mount? I looked on their website, but didn't see any V6 headers for sale, so I'm assuming that never came to be.

I only live 45 minutes from their store, so I think I'm going to pick up a set tomorrow and see how they fit.

That was the story I got from Novak when I was talking to them about block hugger header. They were a little expensive for me to just buy and then hack up. I never got back to it before I sold my CJ5.

I traded a bit of email with Eric from Novak a few weeks back...and he had this to say:

    So they have something....

I thought I'd post an update. I went to Sanderson over in San Francisco and got a set of the BS1's. They have a 3/8" thick flange and overall the quality seems very good. They fit perfectly, but I think I don't have the stock motor mounts. I have saginaw power steering, and my steering shaft was in the way. I had to move the U-joint at the bottom of the colum down about an inch. But my steering shaft might be in a different place then everyone elses, I don't know.

I just ran a single pipe to a flowmaster 50 series and then out the back corner. It's waaaaay quieter than the fenderwell headers with flowmaster 40 series that I had before. I can actually hear the gears in the t-case spin now, and I have some sort of rod knock or something that I could never hear over the sound of the exhaust before.

It kind of smoothed out the sound of the odd-fire, but I was tired of having really loud exhaust so something had to change. Maybe I'll weld in a dump near the engine for when I want to terrorize my neighbors

How much did you pay for those headers?

    Thanks

Ditto on pics and a part number please! I live in San Jose and would really like to see the install and where you picked up the headers. I am thinking about changing the entire exhaust system this winter.
    Thanks!!!

I forgot, they also gave me a cash price of $240 if you pick them up in person. The address is on the website in the link in my last post.

I would definitely run those headers. I actually wanted headers on my old Dauntless but I like the way the stock exhaust looks. Those would fit right in there and not look too far out of proportion like a set of fenderwell heads do.

    Hi Again,
Thanks for all the great info. I was wondering how low the headers hang down. I can't wait to see pics!
