Now that I have the front discs done I'm turning to the rear that has 9" drums. For about an extra $150 I can put rear discs on over 11' drums. If I do this I can also eliminate the old parking brake and save the money I'd spend fixing that. Can someone tell me why I shouldn't do it this way. And is the new parking brake cable a problem.

If it's only $150 buck difference, I can't see why you wouldn't do it. Plus, it would be nice to have a better parking brake for the trails.

Have you considered the master cylinder? I researched it a while back and couldn't seem to find a straight answer on what MC to use. Some said you could use one that was set up for disc/drum and just remove the residual pressure valve for the rear. Others said that wouldn't work b/c the drum reservoir doesn't hold enough fluid to operate the discs. Then, you'd be left to find a disc/disc MC with ports on the passenger side. Someone recommended an early Corvette MC b/c they were disc/disc. Problem is, the ports are on the drivers side and come to rest on the frame rail. Of course - if you have converted to hanging pedals, this wouldn't be an issue...

That was the final step that I never went to. Couldn't find a direct answer anywhere else and someone said I should call Herm.

Please report back what you find out, so we'll have the answer archived here...

Herm said he has sold his mc setup to some 4 w disc people and he said it works fine. I still have the questionabout the parking brake cable has anyone done this.

I'm not sure I understand your question about the parking brake cable...

I have rear discs on my Jeep and I plan on using Cadillac Eldorado (there are others as well) calipers for their built-in parking brake mechanism. I haven't made it as far as selecting a cable to use but I think that a Caddy cable could be made to work in the Jeep.

Your a few steps ahead of me. With no tub on the frame for a few years I just did not want to switch to rear disc + p brake and find out when I put the details together down the road that it's a headache and I should have gone with 11" drums.
