What size tube

So, hypothetically, lets say I were making a tube frame. What size tubing should I use?

 

Hypothetically..... hot rod frame.... IYKWIM. Can't say it around here anymore, get nothin but rolled eyes.

Like rectangular tubing? I'd think roughly the same cross section as your original frame.

 

2X4in rectangle. and

 

2x4x.120 wall for rectangle

1.75x.120 wall for tube

 

That's all? Hmm, I woulda figured at least 2".... cool!

 

2" would work too. I'd want to keep it as light as possible for more speed :twisted:

 

I don't know, these days 2" just looks too big. I'd go 1.75" on main structure parts with smaller tubes for braces and mounts and such.
